Drills and Exercises
Yale New Haven Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response (YNH-CEPDR) provides support to the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) delivery network hospitals and state and national healthcare organizations in the development, design, execution and evaluation of drills and exercises. In addition to our delivery network facilities, YNH-CEPDR provides drills and exercise planning expertise by collaborating with:
- Acute care hospitals and healthcare delivery organizations in the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) Regions 1, 2 and 5
- Hospitals and other healthcare delivery organizations on a regional and national level
- Public Sector partner at the federal, state and municipal levels
The Drills and Exercises (D & E) planning process utilized by YNH-CEPDR follows the guidance established by the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP), and follows the recommendations of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). YNH-CEPDR staff has extensive experience in:
- Assessing an organization’s exercise needs and helping identify the exercise scope, objectives and the type of exercise that best meet’s those needs
- Exercise development including scenarios and documentation needed during the exercise (e.g. Player Handbook, Exercise Plan, Master Scenario Events List)
- Facilitation, control and evaluation of drills and exercises
- Defining evaluation methods and criteria and developing evaluation tools, facilitation of exercise Hotwash, debriefs and Exercise Evaluation Conferences and developing After Action Reports
