What's New

NIMS Course Updates

As of November 3, 2008, YNH-CEPDR will update our library of National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses.  YNH-CEPDR is committed to ensuring that all of our courses remain current with applicable federal and accrediting agency requirements.  In this current course update, we are revising our NIMS courses to meet the requirements outlined in the FEMA February 2008 National Incident Management System (NIMS): Five-Year NIMS Training Plan, Appendix C.  Updated courses will be launched beginning November 3, 2008.

YNH-CEPDR NIMS courses provide public health and health care delivery organizations with a health care focused, effective and NIMS compliant alternative to FEMA ICS-100.HC, ICS-200.HC, and IS-700 courses.  FEMA does not certify courses as NIMS compliant, but rather requires course developers to demonstrate NIMS compliance through mapping their courses to FEMA course objectives and sub-objectives.  YNH-CEPDR has developed a detailed course mapping matrix to demonstrate strict compliance with FEMA objectives and sub-objectives.

Updated NIMS Courses

EM 108:  Emergency Preparedness for Health Care with NIMS

The Need:
Hospitals and many health care organizations are now required to implement the National Incident Management System (NIMS) education and training for appropriate personnel. The Yale New Haven Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response has developed Emergency Preparedness for Health Care with NIMS (EM 108) as an equivalent IS 700 (An Introduction to the National Incident Management System) NIMS course. This course is time-efficient and relevant to public health, hospital and health care workers. EM 108 provides information and action steps all employees can take to ensure a work environment prepared for disasters.

Target Audience:

  • Recommended for all public health, hospital and health care employees
  • Awareness-level

Modality:

  • Online

EM 108 Topics Include:

EM 142 meets the federal requirements for ICS-100.HC, An Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS), and ICS-200.HC, ICS for Single and Initial Action Incidents.

EM 108 and EM 142 together provide a solution for NIMS compliant training for the healthcare workforce.

To complement our updated NIMS courses, YNH-CEPDR also introduces EM 106, an emergency preparedness course to fulfill annual emergency preparedness training requirements for The Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services once an employee’s one-time NIMS training requirements have been fulfilled.
